During Wednesday night’s thunderstorm the beautiful Barr Mansion Artisan Ballroom, and the adjoining prep kitchen were destroyed by a fire.

Kudos to all the wonderful exhibits we had at last month’s Austin Green Living Expo. The event was so comprehensive and we were very pleased with all that the show had to offer. The event was educational, enlightening as well as fun! AND TASTY!! So much good food! Again thanks to all the vendors that came together to create such a wonderful event. We look forward to the 2011 event which will continue to grow and expand. (More on that in a minute)
On April 17, 2007, the Austin City Council asked staff to evaluate options to reduce the use of plastic bags.
The City of Austin Solid Waste Services Green30 Challenge program is encouraging people to downsize their garbage carts and start composting. They will rebate 75% off up to $75 of any compost system purchased between April 22 and August 15, 2010 if the customer: 1. Has a 30-gallon garbage cart (the smallest) or downsizes to 30 gallons (call 3-1-1 to arrange);
2. Completes a compost class (see austinrecycles.com for class schedule) at selected farmer’s market events, and
3. Submits the receipt for an eligible compost system along with the appropriate rebate application form http://www.microbialearth.com/sites/default/files/images/green30_composting_rebate_app.pdf

The Austin Energy Resource and Climate Protection Plan (aka, the generation plan) is poised to pass on Thursday–Earth Day. We want to fill council chamber with supporters!
It has been a long time in coming. After almost two years of public input, this forward-thinking and adaptable energy plan, with lots of wind, solar, and energy efficiency, is up for a vote in the morning.
Wear green, put on a Clean Energy for Austin sticker, and cheer when Council passes it!
