Texas Conference for Women’s Boost Your Business by Going Green Contest

HOUSTON — The Texas Conference for Women (TCW), the state’s premier leadership and education forum for women, hosted by Gov. Rick Perry and First Lady Anita Perry, has extended its’ deadline for entries for its Boost Your Business by Going Green contest.

TCW created the contest to recognize Texas-based, women-owned businesses that raise the bar by lowering their companies’ environmental impact. Contest participants must submit a 500-word case study outlining the policies and practices their companies use to lower environmental impact.

“Small businesses have an important impact on our state, creating jobs and fueling Texas’ economic engine,” said Gov. Perry. “This contest provides a wonderful opportunity for these businesses to be leaders in preserving and protecting our state’s environment. I encourage all Texas business owners to take up this worthy challenge to limit their environmental impact on the Lone Star State.”

Submissions must highlight how these methods have also improved the financial performance of the business. Entries will be accepted through July 31, 2009, and are judged based on creativity and innovation; impact to the environment; financial impact to the company; employee engagement; and customer benefits. Contest winners will be notified by September 15, 2009.

First, second and third prize winners will receive $15,000, $10,000 and $5,000, respectively, in technology equipment by HP. The equipment selected may include ENERGY STAR-qualified products and will be mutually agreed to by the winners and TCW.

Winners must be present at the 10th annual Texas Conference for Women on Nov. 12, 2009, at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston to accept awards.

No purchase is necessary to enter. Each entrant must be a U.S. citizen, a Texas resident and 21 or older at the time of award submission.
