Visiting Kazakh & Ukrainian Environmental Delegates Need Hosts

Center for Safe Energy of the Earth Island Institute (CSE) is seeking host families in Austin for two delegations of environmentalists visiting from Kazakhstan (March 2-10, 2012) and from Ukraine (June 2-10, 2012) as part of the Library of Congress’s Open World Program (http://www.openworld.gov/).

Each group of five delegates will meet with local environmental NGOs and government representatives to learn how both work independently and together to achieve environmental goals. We are also looking for opportunities for them to speak at Austin events about their work and the environmental situations in their own regions.

The delegates will not have been to the US before and are required to stay with host families in order to get a better sense of American life. CSE works with host families' schedules and they can be involved as much or as little as they like. We ask them to provide a simple breakfast, and then we provide lunch and dinner. The delegates will be out at meetings and cultural events during the days, returning to the homes after dinner and evening events. There is a final banquet on the last night for all hosts and delegates.

If interested in hosting or volunteering to be involved, please email the Austin program manager, Tamara Kowalski, atcsedelegations@gmail.com for more information. Host families are needed immediately for the March Kazakhstan delegation.
