17 Nov High-Performance Grout Sealer with a Holistic Approach

You’ve probably heard of zero VOC paints, but have you heard of a zero VOC grout sealer? I recently encountered this issue during a light remodel of a 1970’s bathroom that will primarily be used by two precious little girls. A portion of the job involved re-tiling a tub surround with some trendy white on white subway tile/grout.

Sealing the grout afterward was a must for us, so we reached for something that was non-toxic and zero VOC to do the job.

AFM Safecoat Grout Sealer is what we came up with. Unlike conventional sealers which are made with formaldehyde preservatives, toxic mildewcides/ fungicides, and even teflon; Safecoat is made entirely from plant based ingredients.

As far as performance, Safecoat goes on like traditional grout sealers and claims to provide five years of protection with just one coat. I don’t know if it will really last that long, but it should suffice for our needs since we recommend re-sealing grout in wet areas every one to two years anyway.

For a healthier home, try eliminating the use of any products containing toxic chemicals..even when it comes to seemingly small tasks like sealing grout. Trust me, it all adds up!
