Education for me … and my not-as-uber-green loved ones

When my friend, green realtor and fellow drummer, Don Harvey called this week excited about a new web project — I realized we’ve got a new local asset taking shape: green education that’s more mainstream than eco-intense. I got excited…

Here’s 5 I like a lot:

1. PowerSmack http://powersmack.org/ (Launched this week) PowerSmack is a public interest organization founded by renewable energy expert Mike Sloan. Their mission? Bringing Austinites together to engage in helping Austin Energy provide as much clean, renewable, sustainable electricity as we can stand… Here’s Mike:
2. Green Real Estate Resource http://www.greenrealestateresource.com/ This very new offering from Stanberry & Associates is off to an impressive start: great News Updates, Local Living Resources, an easy to follow Green Building Guide, and a sincere commitment to the growth of sustainable commerce.

3. 1ThingAustin http://austin.1thingus.com/ Easily the most fun of all green living sites I’ve seen — 1Thing is an online info community run by Entercom — a national radio conglomerate. (Think Mix94.7, Majic95, and etc…). With networks building in ___ cities, this approach is bringing green to drivetimers everywhere. Be sure to check out Austin’s amazing "Josh, the GreenTeen"… http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid17426721001?bclid=17506455001&bctid=17526647001

4. Statesman’s Living Green http://www.statesman.com/green/content/shared/green/index.html Capitalizing on the power of shared and re-cycled media — this site offers high quality content topical to Austin and the world… *Also very nifty: http://dogood.statesman.com/ — last week I published on eco romance and how it’s all about organic chocolate and awesome volunteerism. The Statesman’s "Do Good Channel" is a great resource for getting started…

5. Green4th.com http://www.green4th.com I’ll go ahead and plug this one … my current side project. You should check it out right now. My aim is to provide daily links to articles showing conservative and non-treehugging Americans doing smart things to make our nation more environmentally healthy, prosperous, and free. ##

Thanks for reading – wishing you a great weekend, Chris
