Barton Springs Fest is on Saturday.[Festival] Saturday, August 8th is Barton Springs Fest at Barton Springs Pool. The event starts at 8am and is an all-day party celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Barton Springs Uprising, when over 800 Austinites stormed city hall to oppose a massive development planned for the banks of Barton Creek. The citizen action sparked what became the Save Our Springs movement and lead to the voter approval of the SOS ordinance two years later. The Festival will celebrate all of this with snorkel tours, yoga, live music, guest speakers, and an after party at ABGB. More info>>

 


[Outdoor Education] Saturday, August 8th from 9am to noon the Austin Parks Foundation is hosting a Riparian Habitat Restoration class at the Northwest Recreation Center. Urban creeks are currently under a lot of pressure from development and good vegetation management can help offset these negative impacts by providing water quality, stream bank stability, and flood control benefits. During the class, City of Austin Watershed Protection Department staff will provide training on developing restoration plans for riparian (stream/river bank) areas. More info>>
 


[Photo Class] Saturday, August 8th from 10am to noon, the City of Austin Grow Green program is hosting a garden photography class at the Zilker Botanical Garden. Students will learn how to take beautiful plant pictures with good composition and lighting. The class is free with the $2entrance fee to the botanical garden. More info>>

 

Songs for the Last Frontier is on Saturday.[Fundraiser] Saturday, August 8th from 3:30pm to11:30pm the Austin Chapter of the Big Bend Conservation Alliance is hosting a concert to raise money for the Not in Our Big Bend campaign to stop the construction of the Trans-Pecos Pipeline. The proposed natural gas pipeline is expected to run under 143 miles of land in the Big Bend region, carrying natural gas from the Permian Basin in Texas to Mexico. 


The concert has been dubbed, "Songs for the Last Frontier," and tickets are $25. The event will be held at the Fischer Haus Cantina in Fischer, Texas. More info>>

His talk is part of the Austin Business Journal's Face-2-Face series, which invites local business leaders to share their own personal stories and words of wisdom with the community. This month's Green Drinks Happy Hour will be all about solar.[Happy Hour] Tuesday, August 11th from 6pm to 8pm Net Impact Austin is having its monthly Green Drinks Happy Hour at Radio Coffee & Beer on Manchaca Road. Danielle Murray, manager of Solar Energy Services at the City of Austin, will be speaking about the city's residential solar rebate. The Sierra Club will be discussing the Lone Star Rail project at their monthly meeting.[Transportation Talk]Tuesday, August 11th at 6pm the Sierra Club is having their monthly meeting at Scholz Garten. Joe Black, rail director with the Lone Star Rail District, will be the guest speaker for the evening. He will be providing an overview of the Lone Star Regional Rail project, which, if completed, will connect Austin to San Antonio with a commuter train. [Design Workshop]Tuesday, August 11th from 7pm to 9pm Austin Energy Green Building is hosting the second class in its Green by Design Workshop series. from 6pm to 9pm the Austin History Center Associationis hosting its first young professionals event at Abel's on the Lake. State Senator Kirk Watson will be the guest speaker and the topic of discussion will be the history of Lake Austin and Lake Travis.
