Clearing up the Mysteries of Single Stream Recycling

Clearing up the Mysteries of SIngle Stream Recycling.
There seems to be a lot of confusion about what can be recycled and what can’t in the new-ish Single Stream Recycling program. I’ve seen people putting everything from styrofoam to clothes in the big blue bins.  Woah! Putting in things that cannot be recycled can cause more sorting work (best case) and make lots of other materials trash that could have been recycled or gumming up machines (at worst).

As I was leaving City Hall the other day I saw these guys getting on the elevator who had some sign boards I thought would be helpful to our readers. By the way, the sign carriers assured me that the same rules apply for single stream as these office stream sign boards.

Here is the website to see what is acceptable/non-acceptable, http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/sws/residential_singlestream.htm#acceptable.
