Central Texas Environmental Policy Events for June 29 – July 5, 2009

What is this? For those interested in environmental policy at the local level, this post enumerates all of this week’s meetings having an effect on environmental policy. Please attend as many as you can and help move the green agenda forward!

Highlights:

MONDAY: The Parks Board/Environmental Board Joint Committee return to the Barton Springs Tree issue with an update on tree assessments, the short-term action plan, and the long term tree planting and maintenance plan.

MONDAY: Austin Energy will hold a public participation process meeting, though I’m not sure exactly what will be on the agenda.

TUESDAY: The Planning Commission will discuss the scope of work for the comprehensive plan.

TUESDAY: The City of Austin holds a another budget town hall in East Austin.

SATURDAY: Celebrate the 4th of July the eco-way by participating in a veggie hot dog eating contest.

Item #V: Railroad crossing rehabilitation at Parmer and Hwy 183. Apparently, the crossing is on meth and needs an intervention.
Item #VII: MetroRail start-up update. The update from last week was that they’re making progress, but there are still challenges and they’ll report back in July. Don’t expect any new information today.
Item #VIIC: Legislative Matters. Rick Perry vetoed the bill allowing buses to use highway shoulders during congestion. The CapMetro reorg bill passed and will presumably be implemented.

4:00pm: Austin Energy Public Participation Process Stakeholder Information and Feedback Meeting
Can’t find much details on this meeting, but from the 2nd link below: The format for these meetings would consist of a presentation from the AE’s/ Deputy Director or another designated manager, a Q&A and commenting period, and an explanation of the public-input process.
