Austin, Lakeway City Councils to conduct Austin Energy rate hearing
Officials seek input from utility customers outside Austin

The Austin and Lakeway City Councils will conduct a joint hearing Saturday, April 14 to get public comment from Austin Energy’s customers outside Austin on the electric utility’s proposed rate increase.
The hearing will be at 10 a.m. at Lakeway City Hall, 1102 Lohmans Crossing. The meeting will be posted as a work session for the Austin City Council and the Lakeway City Council, and no action will be taken.

Also, work sessions on the proposed Austin Energy rate increase will be at Austin City Hall. Those include:

  • Tuesday, April 17, 9 a.m. – Noon, Austin City Hall
  • Thursday, April 19, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.,  Austin City Hall
  • Monday, April 23, 9 a.m. – Noon, Austin City Hall
  • Tuesday, April 24, 2 – 4 p.m.  Austin City Hall
  • Monday, April 30, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Austin City Hall

Austin Energy is the nation’s ninth largest community-owned electric utility. About 14 percent of the 450,000 Austin Energy customers, totaling about 53,000 homes and 6,400 businesses, are outside of Austin.  Approximately 2,100 Lakeway residents and 640 commercial businesses are served by Austin Energy.

The service area covers approximately 437 square miles with 421.61 square miles in Travis County and 15.44 square miles in Williamson County.  Of the Travis County portion, 206.41 square miles fall within the Austin city limits.
