Our monthly Austin Sierra Club meeting will be online via Zoom.
We’ll start off with Announcements on current events… Tonite’s main topic is Project Connect, with Randy Clarke, CEO of Capital Metro.
Project Connect is a comprehensive transit plan with a rail system that travels under downtown Austin. The new rail services would connect North and South Austin, crossing the river before extending down South Congress and serve East Austin, Colony Park, and the airport. The plan also includes expanded bus service – with more MetroRapid, MetroExpress and on-demand circulators and 24 new Park & Rides to connect to the larger transit system. It also provides an all-electric bus fleet. https://capmetro.org/project-connect .
A ballot measure for the Project Connect Initial Investment is on the November 2020 ballot. It was a collaborative process between the Capital Metro board and the Austin City Council that resulted in the Initial Investment portion of Project Connect being put before voters this year.
Randy Clarke is president and CEO of Capital Metro. Prior to this, Clarke held key leadership positions in public transportation in both Boston and Washington, D.C., and earned a master’s degree in public policy from the University of Southern Maine. When away from the office, Clarke enjoys traveling and competitive running with his wife, Kimberley, whom he met, as fate would have it, while riding a train.
