[Film Screening] Friday, November 6th from 7pm to 9pm the First Unitarian Universalist Church is hosting a free screening of the documentary, “Greedy Lying Bastards.” The film investigates the people and organizations casting doubt on climate science and explores the impact they’ve had on global climate action. Keep Austin Beautiful is having a Resource Giveaway Day on Saturday.

[Giveaway] Saturday, November 7th from 10am 
to noon Keep Austin Beautiful is hosting a Resource Giveaway Day at its offices off I-35 (rescheduled from Oct. 31st). They’ll be giving away compost, mulch, plants, seeds, and trees for community projects throughout the city. Plus, the first 100 people will receive a $10 gift card to The Great Outdoors Nursery to help buy more supplies. More info>>

[Gardening Class]Saturday, November 7th at noon Brite Ideas is hosting a free “Winterizing Aquaponics” class at its store on South Congress Avenue. This class will teach students the many ways to prepare an aquaponics system for the winter as well as innovative ways to heat the system. More info>>

[Film Screening] Saturday, November 7th at 6pm the Austin Zen Center is hosting a free screening of the documentary, “Merchants of Doubt.” The film lifts the curtain on a secretive group of highly charismatic, silver-tongued pundits-for-hire who present themselves in the media as scientific authorities – yet have the contrary aim of spreading maximum confusion about well-studied public threats ranging from toxic chemicals to pharmaceuticals to climate change. More info>>

[Climate Change Meeting] Monday, November 9th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm the Faith and Energy Action Team (FEAT) is having its monthly meeting at the First Unitarian Universalist Church. Rev. Tom VandeStadt, from the Congregational Church of Austin, will lead an interactive dialogue on the spiritual side of climate change. The upcoming UN Climate Summit and local environmental advocacy efforts will also be discussed.More info>>

[Gardening Class] Tuesday, November 10th from 6pm to 8pm the Sustainable Food Center is hosting a “Fall Pests and Diseases” class at its headquarters on East 17th Street. Students will learn all about organic pest management, including biological, cultural, mechanical and chemical methods of control. Tickets should be purchased in advance. More info>>

The topic of discussion at the Sierra Club meeting will be Shield Ranch.[Conservation Talk] Tuesday, November 10th at 7pm the Sierra Club is hosting their monthly meeting at Scholz Garten. The topic of discussion will be Shield Ranch, a 6,800-acre ranch on Barton Creek in southwest Travis County. Shield Ranch is also home to El Ranchito, a nature immersion summer camp for low-income families. More info>>


Naomi Klein, the author of "This Changes Everything" is speaking at the LBJ Library.

[Climate Talk] Wednesday, November 11th from 7pm to 9pm the LBJ Library is hosting a free public lecture featuring Naomi Klein. Klein is the author of several books, including “This Changes Everything,” which argues that climate change is our “civilizational wake-up call” and that our global economic system must change in order to confront it. More info>>
