10 Jul Tree-Hugger’s Guide to Working in Corporations
"So, you want to save the world, but still need to earn a decent living? If this sounds like you, you have opened the right book." So begins the introduction to Changing Business from the Inside Out: A Tree-Hugger's Guide to Working in Corporations by Timothy Mohin, Director of Corporate Responsibility at Advanced Micro Devices(AMD). The theme of this book is how to make a living AND make a difference.
Mr. Mohin describes his book as a "how-to manual" on working for social and environmental justice from within a company. It covers knowledge, skills and abilities to land a job and be successful in the corporate responsibility field. Even if you hold a more conventional position in the corporate world such information can help you have an impact on your company's direction in these two key areas.
My first warning of this book's release came at the GoGreen Austin '12 conference in April. Mr. Mohin moderated a panel entitled "Engage!"on employee engagement and sustainability. In his opening remarks for the session, he declared sustainability a gateway drug for employee engagement. People will really show up for work and truly give their all when they believe they're working for a good cause not just a paycheck. He devotes a chapter to the topic in this book. His closing remarks included a "shameless plug" for his upcoming publication.
Based on the pages I previewed on Amazon, it's definitely going in my "cart"!
