26 Apr Sustainability Office Launches New Website
On Moday, 4.18.2011, the city of Austin's new Office of Sustainability launched their website. Through the webiste they have sent out an invitation to the austin community to get involved in creating a more sustainable Austin. They have links to their Austin Green Business Leaders Program, the City's Carbon Calculator, and the Green Neighbor, Green City Challenge. These are some of the main city programs that Austin now offers through its Office of Sustainability, where people can easily get started or continue their action(s) toward living a more sustainable life.
The Office of Sustainability is now the manager for the Austin Climate Protection Program. Aside from this, you can also find links to the STAR Community Index, Imagine Austin Comprehensive Plan, and the Sustainable Communities Grant: Regional Plan for Sustainable Development which are some other priority programs for the Office.
The website lists five areas where they are focusing their sustainability objectives, and resources for people to learn more about them. Homegrown Prosperity, Conservation & the Environment, Health & Equity, Culture & Creativity, and City Shaping & Mobility are listed to the right of the webpage.
Overall the website seems to be an extremely valuable resource for the Austin community. Lucia is doing a great job of pulling in the people working for the city that she needs to, to create a strong team for sustainabilty. Through the new website's "contact us" page you can also see a list of the Boards and Commissions in the City that are related to sustainability, get connected to the office through their social media pages, or participate and make your voice heard through SpeakUpAustin!'s Forum, where you can vote on ideas for the city that you like or submit your own ideas.
Check out the website and let us and them know what you think!
