18 Feb The line-up for Thursday’s Winter Series #1 on Local Food – “Meet the Producers”
The line-up for tomorrows Winter Series Talk at Habitat Suites – Local Food – Very Tasty….
The Winter Series rolls on….this Thursday, Feb. 18 is the first of the 2 sessions on Local Food – a most important topic for peak oil, nutrition, business development, our environment, our future. This Thursday features and honors our Local Food Producers and Gardeners:
– Brenton Johnson of Johnson’s Backyard Garden – from a small city lot to C-TX
largest organic Local Food CSA
– Kevin Roberts, aka Chickenman – who left the city life and job to start/run a well-
known Pastured Poultry and Egg business
– Venkappa Gani – Award-winning Austin gardener – turned his standard subdivision
backyard into bountiful Forest Garden
Please be a part of the turn-out to honor these pioneers and learn from their stories, how they started, how they run, the joys and challenges. See you and a friend there, we hope – 7:00 – 9:00 PM at the Habitat Suites Hotel, 500 E. Highland Mall Blvd., next to the Sail Boat Center.
:
Tomorrow will be a fitting warm-up for week #2 when we will cover Local Food Distribution – chaired by Marla Camp of Edible Austin with short talks by Andrew Smiley on SFCs Farmers Markets, Farm to Table, Farm to School programs; by one of Austin’s Local Food Delivery services, and by Gardener, now Farmer, Dorsie Barger, of the East Side Cafe.
Today, Local Food is better for you, fun to grow, and it’s nice to support the Local Farmer – Tomorrow and in the future, "Local" is likely to be the major source of our food, an important part of our local economy, and a big antidote to Peak[ed] Oil. It’s time to listen to the folks that are bringing you Local Food now – perhaps you can help bring on the future and have fun doing it.
…..What do Individuals, Homes, Schools, Businesses, Restaurants, Cafeterias, Churches, Rec. Centers,…. have in common?…..
They are all heading toward Local Food.
