07 Sep Mason Greenstar, Inc. Joins the Renewable Energy Roundup & Green Living Fair
Mason Greenstar, Inc. will participate in the action at the 13th Annual Renewable Energy Roundup & Green Living Fair (The Roundup). People from across Texas, from communities large and small converge on Fredericksburg annually in search of ideas for a cleaner, healthier, more sustainable and energy efficient lifestyle. The Roundup is a place to see new ideas in action; to test, explore and interact with products and services for healthy sustainable living. The Roundup takes place at Market Square, 126 West Main St. in Fredericksburg, September 27 – 29, 2013.
“We at Mason Greenstar are very excited to once again participate in the Renewable Energy Roundup.”, said Zach Rabon, President of Mason Greenstar, “The Texas Hill Country has been a great home for our business, and we are very proud to have a product that contributes toward a greener and more sustainable Hill Country…There is always a great turnout for the Roundup, and I am sure it will be a great event again this year.”
For 13 years the Renewable Energy Roundup & Green Living Fair has been a perfect weekend destination for Texans who want to enjoy a fall road trip to the Texas Hill Country. The Roundup is the largest all sustainability fair in the South. Texans seeking healthier lifestyles and those concerned about drought and the environment have come to the Roundup yearly to hear national leaders and local experts; to participate in workshops and panel discussions and to enjoy creative events. The Roundup takes place annually the last weekend in September. Tickets are $10 per day, $12 on Saturday or $25 for a weekend pass.
Mason Greenstar manufactures Greenstar BLOX®, an energy efficient and environmentally friendly building material comprised of recycled cellulose (State of Texas newspapers, phone books, and lottery tickets), cement, and a patented blend of organic additives. Currently, the Greenstar BLOX® mixture is used to manually manufacture a 10”x14”x4” building block, replicating a traditional adobe size.
The advantages of using the Greenstar BLOX® system are numerous. In addition to being a FEMA certified Safety Shelter Component; the sustainable building material possesses properties such as fire, water, termite, mold, and ballistics resistance. Because of its high insulation factor and thermal mass it provides tremendous savings in heating and cooling costs during the lifetime of the structure compared to conventional construction. The simplicity of the building system saves money (as much as 20% compared to conventional construction) throughout the construction process by eliminating the need for numerous building materials and crews, and eliminating the amount of waste going to a landfill from a job site.
Using conventional masonry construction methods; Greenstar BLOX® are laid by course, just like any other block or brick, staggering joints and over lapping corners. The mortar used in construction is the same material as the Greenstar BLOX®, creating a monolithic structure. Trenches can be easily cut to house electrical and plumbing lines then packed with mortar during a scratch coat application. The same slurry mix used for mortar is also used for the scratch coat. The scratch coat adheres to Greenstar BLOX® walls without the need for metal lathe. At this stage, a finish plaster system is recommended to seal the exterior surfaces. The interior wall finishes are limitless, ranging from earthen clays to paints.
