JOB: TreeFolks Program Manager

TreeFolks is seeking a Program Manager and offering a temporary position. This position may develop into a full time, permanent position with benefits available if the temporary candidate meets or exceeds expectations and if an opportunity exists within the company.

The Program Manager will manage the CityShade and Education & Outreach programs. The CityShade program partners with municipal, non-profit and community organizations to engage the public in urban forestry projects in their community. The Program Manager will be the face of community tree planting & tree care projects and will support TreeFolks’ mission by educating the public, inspiring stewardship, and supporting partnerships. This position produces thorough, well researched work in a timely manner, understands the value of community partnerships and reports to the Executive Director. Expertise in urban forestry, arboriculture or a closely related field, professional and courteous communication, attention to detail, and project management skills are essential elements of this position.

TreeFolks grows Central Texas’ urban forests. Our programs work closely with community partners to educate and engage the public through urban forest stewardship. TreeFolks is a mission based non-profit organization with a significant amount of public interaction. Annually we plant over 10,000 trees, coordinate more than 30,000 hours of volunteer labor, and present urban forest information at more than 100 events.

 

Duties for CityShade, a Public Tree Stewardship Program Include:

1. Educate the public about the benefits of the urban forest ecosystem.

2. Coordinate tree planting and maintenance events with applicable resource management agencies and public stakeholders.

3. Develop ecosystem management plans in conjunction with applicable resource management agencies and public stakeholders.

4. Recruit and manage volunteers.

5. Evaluate program impact.

6. Recommend opportunities to improve the effectiveness and capacity of the program.

7. Support the development of a monitoring program for urban forest ecosystem data.

8. Promote the benefits of the program to the public.

9. Assure compliance for all CityShade grants and contracts.

10. Provide regular program updates for use in outreach materials.

 

Duties for the Education & Outreach Program Include:

1. Coordinate presentations, classes and workshops regarding TreeFolks’ mission and urban forest benefits to the community.

2. Attend external partner meetings to provide updates, solicit feedback, and to maintain positive working relationships.

3. Serve as the staff liaison to TreeFolks’ Program Committee and Education Committee.

4. Provide regular program updates for use in outreach materials.

 

General Support & Operations Management

1. Assist staff in managing the office, including equipment, resources and facility maintenance.

2. Update and maintain records to track hours worked, volunteer hours, donated materials or services, and overall impact.

3. Assure TreeFolks and its mission, programs, products, and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive manner.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities –

1. ISA Certified Arborist or ability to acquire certification within one year

2. Bachelor of Science or advanced degree in Biology, Forestry, Watershed Management of closely related field

3. Strong public speaking and interpersonal communication skills

4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills

5. Detailed organizational and project management skills

6. Dedication to providing great customer service

7. Interest in continuing to learn about the urban forest of central Texas

8. Passion for sharing urban forest benefits with the community

9. Familiar with iTree tools

10. Familiar with GIS

11. Background and/or interest in non-profit organizations

12. Ability to lead volunteers and community groups

13. Ability to facilitate and make presentations to community groups

14. Ability to work weekends and evenings

15. Ability to contribute and work as a team member within the organization and with strategic partners

16. Maintain drivers license in good standing

 

Essential Physical Demands of the Job include lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing, walking, bending, reaching, speaking, hearing, and vision. This position will involve working indoors and outdoors, in hot, cold, wet, dry, loud and quiet environments. Occasional hazards include exposure to tree maintenance equipment, and dust.
