Duties/responsibilities:

Serving as an AmeriCorps member with the Environmental Corps MACC (Mountain Alliance Conservation Corps) crew, members will be performing strenuous physical tasks outdoors in all types of weather. Most service will be done in Austin and Travis County, though members will be expected to participate in occasional service trips to state and national parks across TX. Trips involve long hours, camping, field cooking, and a team effort. Members of the MACC crew may also be called on to respond to national emergencies; appropriate training will be provided. Typical service day will include trail-building and parkland maintenance projects, habitat restoration projects, and a variety of public land improvement projects in the community. MACC crew members will also receive forestry-related training and do more forestry-related service.
Service projects may include invasive species control or removal, building /maintaining trails, constructing stone walls, steps, decks and rail fences, extensive chainsaw work, as well as planting trees or cleaning up creeks and watersheds. Members will be trained in using tools such as chainsaws, Griphoists, small machinery, picks, pruning saws, loppers, rock bars, etc. No experience or skills required, just a positive attitude and a willingness to work hard within a diverse crew environment. Training, tools, and safety gear are provided. Drug test required. Members receive a living stipend, health insurance and an education award (upon successful completion of service)
