The Kozmetsky Center is excited to host a screening of “The Librarians” during Banned Books Week. Additionally, we are honored to have Suzette Baker, the librarian from Llano, TX, who refused to pull books from her shelf to sit down with us for a conversation about her experience and the significant role that public libraries play in exercising the first amendment. Enjoy free food & non-alcoholic beverages paid for by the Kozmetsky Center! Plus, proceeds from the small ticket fee will go towards Munday Library and improving their collection of physical books.
In Texas, the Krause List targets 850 books focused on race and LGBTQia+ stories – triggering sweeping book bans across the U.S. at an unprecedented rate. As tensions escalate, librarians connect the dots from heated school and library board meetings nationwide to lay bare the underpinnings of extremism fueling the censorship efforts. Despite facing harassment, threats, and laws aimed at criminalizing their work – the librarians’ rallying cry for freedom to read is a chilling cautionary tale.
