Introducing our premier Stay Black & Live Juneteenth Free Your Mind Symposium speaker, Amanda Johnston presenting, “An Artist’s Duty”. Join us on Monday, June 17, 2024 from 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM for a reading and brief talk with 2024 Texas State Poet Laureate, and founder of Torch Literary Arts, Amanda Johnston, and hear her thoughts on her role as an artist concerning Nina Simone’s statement that “an artist’s duty is to reflect the times.”

Following the talk, Johnston will be in conversation with esteemed writer, and deputy director of the Texas Book Festival, Dalia Azim, who will then facilitate a community Q&A to close out the evening.
