“Shades of Green” Environmental Talk Radio on KOOP 91.7 FM (Luke Metzger and Suzanne King on Proposition 6, water and drought issues)

December 27 @ 2:31 pm

Please join Shades of Green for this week's edition on KOOP Community Radio, 91.7 FM.

On Thursday, we'll talk with Suzanne King and Luke Metzger to discuss the evening's Texas Water Conference at the State Capitol. The event will address water and drought issues and Proposition 6. This proposition was approved by Texas voters on November 5th to allocate $2 billion in tax payer funds to water projects and conservation measures.

Suzanne King:
As a third generation Austinite, Suzanne has been passionate about protecting the environment since as long as she can remember.  Currently, she is a Consultant for a water technology company called Banyan Water, which helped its customers save over 300 million gallons of water in 2012.  Previously, she worked for EnerNOC to grow participation of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) Demand Response program in order to help ensure electric grid stability. Early next year, Suzanne is moving to Australia to get her Masters in Integrated Water Management.

Luke Metzger:
Luke Metzger is the Founder and Director of Environment Texas, a statewide, citizen-funded advocate for clean air, clean water and open spaces.  He has played a key role in dozens of successful environmental campaigns, including getting the Legislature to dramatically boost funding for water conservation and states parks. Luke sits on many committees including the Joint Committee on Austin Water Utility's Financial Plan. He has been named one of the "Top Lobbyists for Causes" by Capitol Inside.

Opponents tout it's a money grab for big developers, doesn't go far enough to promote and enforce conservation and doesn't truly fix our water woes.

Proponents say it's a policy that can affect the next 50 years of water decisions made in the state.
