From responsible bee keeping to making honey to taking action on the collapse of bee colonies across the globe, this week's topic will buzz all around bees!
We will welcome Master Bee Keeper, Lance Wilson. He currently manages hives in Llano and Travis counties and promotes natural beekeeping, avoiding synthetic chemicals and antibiotics, and the use of Integrated Pest Management, including organic bio-pesticides. He is a co-organizer of the Austin Urban Beekeeping Meetup and regularly presents at the annual Texas and North American Beekeeping Conferences, as well as provide bi-monthly presentations to the Round Rock Beekeeping School and advanced instruction for their master class.
We'll also speak to Tanya Phillips who owns a Certified Naturally Grown Apiary in SW Austin managing over 30 hives in various stages of development between downtown Austin and Dripping Springs. She teaches chemical-free beekeeping classes (bee-ginner and hands on), bottles and sells honey and wax products, and helps new beekeepers manage their hives. Tanya and her husband also started a nonprofit for bees and bee research in Texas www.BeeFriendlyFoundation.org and began the Central Texas Tour de Hives, which they hope will be a fun yearly event/festival.
