“Shades of Green”, Austin’s only Environmental Talk Radio on KOOP 91.7 FM (GMOs & March Against Monsanto Rally Recap)

November 23 @ 9:54 pm

Please join the Shades of Green crew as we recap the March Against Monsanto rally, which hosted more than 400 events around the world. We'll also discuss GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms) crops and the dangers posed to world populations through bioengineering food supplies.

Our guests include:

John VanDeusen Edwards attended the University of Texas as a film major. After taking a door to door job selling insurance to pay off student loans, Edwards was inspired by how closely knit rural communities can be. After having tremendous success with a drought tolerant garden bed design, he decided access to healthy food could be the missing link to building communities in an urban setting.

Jonathan Horstmann is an artist with a penchant for social activism. He studied reforestation while doing aid work in Haiti, and was inspired to continue working with marginalized populations. While back in the States, Horstmann met Edwards and decided the best way to lessen negative impact on rural communities was to increase positive impact in the city.

Following in the footsteps of his American Indian ancestors, Gerald Cole has been involved in  farming since childhood. Introduced as a teenager to Organic Farming he has continued for 35+ years to learn, teach, and promote sustainable Organic ways to produce quality food. He currently owns OrganicareFarms and practices Holistic Management which is a whole farm/ranch planning system that addresses the environmental, economic, and social issues farmers face today. A view which believes that people count, healthy land is essential, and sustainability matters.
