Blackshear Community Garden, the nonprofit Creek People, and gardening startup Gardenio are all teaming up for a night of storytelling to raise money benefitting Blackshear Community Garden.
Join us on Sunday, April 14th from 6 – 8 PM for Rain On Me. Enjoy free food and drinks, and help enhance this tucked-away East Austin gem with a rain garden and a mural of Julie Faye Mitchell.
Rain On Me will include stories of bad luck, rainy days, and acceptance. Want to share your true 5-8 minute story? Sign up ends April 1st: https://goo.gl/forms/62LFb2pjy8ydCXY73
The suggested donation for those attending this event is $15 per person as we work toward our fundraising goal of $3,000. The overall cost of the project is $30,000.
Julia Faye Mitchell (8/26/1931-10/12/2015) was a pillar in the Blackshear community. She founded, and was president of the neighborhood association and ran a neighborhood kids program for many years.
She championed equality, tolerance and love, was a founding member of the community garden when it started in 2008, and was also integral in getting the neighborhood streets paved in the 1960s. She loved sitting on her porch in the house she was born in on the corner of Mill St and E 9th and talking to neighbors. She is survived by many wonderful children.
