We are thrilled to announce a special continuing education session on Disaster Psychology, designed for current and aspiring members of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). Our CERT Team member, Dr. Escamilla, a licensed clinical social worker and veteran CERT instructor, will conduct this session. Join us on Wednesday, June 5, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at the Jollyville Fire Department to deepen your understanding of psychological responses to disasters.

About the Session: Disaster Psychology is a crucial component of the CERT curriculum developed by FEMA. This session aims to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to understand and manage the emotional consequences of disasters on victims and responders alike. By addressing topics such as trauma, stress reactions, and the principles of psychological first aid, participants will learn how to provide effective support in times of crisis.

Why Attend?

  • Expert Instruction: Dr. Escamilla brings over 50 years of experience in treating trauma, depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues. Her extensive background makes her a profound source of knowledge and insight in the field of Disaster Psychology.
  • Relevant Skills: Whether you are dealing with affected individuals directly or supporting other responders, the psychological understanding you gain will be valuable.
  • CERT Certification: Enhance your capabilities as a CERT member and use this workshop as part of your continuing education credits.
Instructor Profile: Dr. Escamilla has been an integral part of the CERT community since 2009 and has instructed many in the essentials of emergency response since 2015. Her academic contributions as a faculty member at the University of Texas and St. Edwards University, combined with specialized training in disability and cultural awareness, enrich her teaching, making it relevant and accessible to all participants.
