Free nutrition and gardening classes for families!

The Central Texas Food Bank staff offers simultaneous cooking classes for adults and gardening classes for children (adults without children are welcome to attend).

As a SNAP-ED funded program, our onsite classes are intended for low-income families and individuals at risk of hunger.

To register for classes contact Mary Agnew at 512-684-2501

Dates: Wednesdays September 13, 20, 27; October 4, 11, 18, 25; November 1 & 8
Time: 6pm – 7:30 p.m.
Location: Central Texas Food Bank, 6500 Metropolis Dr., Austin, TX 78744

The gardening classes teach children about where food comes from and how to care for plants. We discuss the different plant parts we eat, how to keep your garden healthy organically, and even learn about composting with earthworms. Each class will include working outside in the garden, so children should wear comfortable clothes and tennis or athletic shoes that they can move around in and get a little dirty.

The nutrition class will teach adults about basic nutrition, healthy lifestyle choices, food preparation, how to save money at the grocery store, and food safety. They will also learn about ways to be physically active as well as participate in light exercises during class. Adults should try to bring comfortable clothes and tennis or athletic shoes that they can move around in.
