Celebrate the opening of a new Copperfield Connector Trail with Copperfield Elementary and Austin’s Urban Trails, Safe Routes to School, and Sidewalk Programs! Stop by the trail near Copperfield Elementary for a ribbon-cutting, speeches, and a ballet folklorico performance!

– 10 a.m. remarks by Congressman Doggett, Council Member Natasha Harper-Madison, and representatives of the City of Austin and Pflugerville Independent School District, followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony
– Students of Copperfield Elementary will perform a traditional Mexican dance
– Meet city staff and learn about the Safe Routes to School program and upcoming urban trail projects in the Copperfield neighborhood

The Copperfield Connector Trail was constructed in partnership with the City of Austin’s Urban Trails, Safe Routes to School, and Sidewalks and Special Projects Program, in coordination with Pflugerville ISD. The concrete trail connects Thompkins Drive to Shropshire Lane, creating a shorter, safer, and more accessible route for students to walk or bike to Copperfield Elementary. The project also included the construction of new sidewalks, installation of curb ramps, and new pedestrian crossing islands. Funding came from Austin Mobility Bonds and District 1 quarter-cent funding.
