CANCELLED due to speaker getting food poisoning – Solar Energy Happy Hour to discuss The Potential Impact of Solar PV on Electricity Markets in Texas

November 24 @ 10:07 am

Solar energy can save Texans money during heat waves.

With the addition of 1,000 MW of solar PV capacity, electric customers in Texas could have saved $168 million in June through August of 2011. An additional 2,500 MW or 5,000 MW of solar PV capacity would have resulted in savings of $348 million and $520 million, respectively. These savings are derived from avoided fuel and operations and maintenance costs at fossil fuel generators and from reduced prices from not running peaker generators. The savings reported in this study do not include any “scarcity hours” in which prices exceed $200/MWh. With the electricity price cap now raised to $4,500/MWh and possibly to rise to $9,000/MWh, additional savings are possible.

Join us relax, network and learn more about how solar can save us money. Dr. Jurgen Weiss, Principal at The Brattle Group will share the results of “The Potential Impact of Solar PV on Electricity Markets in Texas” study he co-authored on behalf of the Solar Energy Industry Association (SEIA).
