Austin continued to profess its support for electric vehicles with a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week for Electric Drive, a new electric transportation hub in downtown Austin.
Located along West 2nd Street near the Seaholm Power Plant, Electric Drive features:
- Dedicated parking for two electric vehicle charging stations (including a fast-charging DC port)
- A solar-powered kiosk that can recharge electric bikes, scooters, motorcycles, laptops, and cell phones with USB ports and electrical outlets
According to a press release from Austin Energy, Electric Drive was built to demonstrate the utility’s commitment, “to the growing electric vehicle market and renewable energy.”
The ribbon-cutting ceremony also marked the five-year anniversary of Austin Energy’s Plug-In EVerywhere™ Program, which has installed 547 electric vehicle charging stations at 162 separate locations across the Austin area since its inception. Already, electric vehicle charging is one of the best deals in town. The Plug-In EVerywhere™ Program offers unlimited vehicle charging for Austinities at less than $5 a month. More info>>
