Digest 5/27: On the Road with Alejandro Escovedo

My blogs this month: Paul Revere's Solutions (answering Walter Cronkite), Beautiful Iowa Roadsides (it's amazing what you can see from a van window), and Illinois, the Enlightened State?, is a mixture of armchair thinking from home and "from the road" (i'm currently on the road with Alejandro Escovedo… until August). Synopses:

Paul Revere's Solutions
Part one of this post traces Walter Cronkite's leadership of the American eco awakening during the 1970's and suggests things are getting worse, not better, on a global scale. Like most people I'd rather push it all under the rug. But part two of this series offers three solutions each of us can engage in to meet today's intimidating challenges. Read my full post here.

Beautiful Iowa Roadsides
The Al Escovedo band begin touring a week ago and already I've seen some beautiful places. This post looks at how difficult being "eco" is, in a meaningful way, while traveling. Maybe the best thing we professional travelers can do to change the world is "be nice," and honest. Read my full post here.

Illinois, the Enlightened State
Who knew? Since traveling pretty much from one side of the country to the other this week I've been amazed at: a) how hard it is to find a recycling bin, b) how easy it is to cover large distances quickly (thanks fossil fuels), and c) the vegan food in Milwaukee. Anyway … green Austinites, Chicago and Illinois are moving forward with strong commitments to great ideas. Read my full post here.
