Barton Creek Farmers Market: Local Festive Foods & Handcrafted Gift Ideas *Plus A Holiday Cookie Recipe

Holiday festivities fill the air at Barton Creek Farmers Market! Find holiday music along with the healthy local farm foods, foodie ideas, cookies & bakery items, artisan breads and sweets for holiday meals and parties. You’ll find local farm raised, grass-fed meats, low temperature pasteurized non homogenized dairy products, fruits and vegetables as well as crafts produced by local artists at both Barton Creek Farmers Markets: Barton Creek Farmers Market Saturdays at Barton Creek Square Mall and Barton Creek Farmers Market Sundays at Highland Mall.

Both markets provide fun kids activities including face painting, balloon sculpture, moonwalk and slide and Tiny Tails Petting Zoo. Barton Creek Farmers Market is a happy place.  You’ll notice it as you watch the children, the dogs and the farmers interacting with the people who come to this open-air market place.

Dennis Perz of Georgetown Pecans told me his favorite cookie recipe.

If you are making holiday cookies this may be one you’ll want to try.  Perz told me it was his favorite cookie.  He also told me it is important to chop the pecans and apricots together in this recipe … and of course you’ll want to get your pecans from Georgetown Pecans.  If you don’t have the time to make the cookies you can get his pecans in a special hand-made holiday gift bag.

Apricot Pecan Cookies

  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 t vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 t baking soda
  • 1 t cream of tartar
  • 1 cup pecans, 1 6oz. package dried apricots chopped together

Combine powdered sugar and butter. Add egg and vanilla. Add flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar. Mix well. Add pecans and apricots.

Drop by teaspoonful 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake at 350 degrees for 9 minutes or until light golden brown.

Sprinkle with powdered sugar while warm and again when cool.
