Austin EcoNetwork Goes Platinum!

We did it!

I finally submitted the scorecard for Austin EcoNetwork and we handily became a Platinum-rated Austin Green Business Leader

How did I do it?

I called Marc Coudert from the City of Austin's Office of Sustainability, who came to me, at my place of business, (which currently happens to be my home), and walked me through each question. I had started it before and had a bit filled out so we were done in about an hour.  I can't believe I waited so long. I attended the kick-off announcement for the program and could have been one of the first!  Oh well, let me be a lesson to you… it's easy – get it done and ask for help if you need it.

If you have a green business or organization in Austin you should be recognized as a leader. Don't delay. It really is three easy steps:

  1. Go to http://www.austintexas.gov/department/austin-green-business-leaders and download the scorecard.
  2. Fill out the scorecard. You don't have to be doing everything green to be recognized, and you can always move up as you start adopting new practices. Going through the scorecard is educational because it gives you ideas about things you could be doign to be greener. Its alos provides tips and resources to help you take actions to improve.  And seriously, contact Marc and ask him to help you get it done if you find yourself not able or willing to do it yourself. You don't get more points for doing it solo.
  3. Click here to return your completed scorecard. Score well, and your business will be recognized and promoted.

The City promotes the Austin Green Business Leaders in a variety of ways and you get to display your "badge" on your website, storefront, and other places you market yourself. As a bonus, if you get your scorecard in by July 25th you will be invited to the awards ceremony in August, for networking and a behind-the-scenes tour of City Hall. The Mayor will be on hand to greet Austin’s green business leaders.
