21 Jan Aquaponics at Barton Creek Farmers Market & Brite Ideas of Austin
Adam Harwood from Lily Pad Farms is providing a series of free talks on how to grow food aquaponically. Aquaponics consists of two main parts; aquaculture for raising aquatic animals or fish, and hydroponics for growing plants. It is a perfectly balanced system that can sustainably produce food year round. Harwood sells the food he produces at Barton Creek Farmers Markets to a sell-out crowd. Harwood will speak at both Barton Creek Farmers Market and at Brite Ideas of Austin on Saturday, January 26th.
Lily Pad Farm is a family owned and operated aquaponic farm in central Texas. Started in 2009, Lily Pad Farm grows high quality fish and produce for the community and promotes education about deep-water raft aquaponics. The farm is sustainable and 100% natural … never using pesticides, fertilizers, antibiotics, chemicals or GMO’s to grow our food. “Aquaponics makes the cleanest, highest quality food around, we are totally sustainable, it is a defensible food source, a food of the future today,” said Harwood.
