Did you know there’s a very important local election happening this November? It will impact everything from parks, to homelessness, to affordability. But, explaining the election includes talking about numbers, taxes, budgets, and other boring-sound (and confusing things). That’s why we’re kicking off a series breaking it all down for you!
In this first guide, we’ve got all the basics about what a tax rate election is, how property taxes work in Austin, and the history of property taxes in our city.
The data for this chart comes from the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis’ Consumer Price Index chart.
PS – The total City of Austin property tax bill for the median homeowner if the TRE passes is $2,271.66 (about $300 more than last year).
