Austin Zero Waste Alliance (AZWA) Monthly Meeting

November 15 @ 6:32 am

Last month we had a rollicking discussion about incineration, dirty MRFs, and cost savings in trash pickup. The Director of Austin Resource Recovery Department, Bob Gedert, and the Chairman of the Zero Waste Advisory Commission, Gerry Acuna, felt the need to attend, and AZWA became a forum for solving problems before they even start. This month is—hopefully!—going to be a little less intense, but our citizen activism will be no less vital for the future of a Zero Waste Austin.

This month we will get to some of the organizational discussions we didn’t get around to with all of last month’s fireworks, and will finish organizing to keep the dirty MRF (Materials Recovery Facility—a “recycling center” that takes trash too) out of town. We will also discuss recent victories in North Texas where Dallas became the second city in Texas to pass a Zero Waste Plan! Altogether, our meeting has become a great place to meet the like-minded and to meaningfully organize for a cleaner, greener, healthier and wealthier Austin.

If you have an item for consideration on our agenda, please email me before noon on Wednesday. We look forward to seeing everybody!
