Unveiling of Recommendations for Lady Bird Lake South Shore

November 24 @ 8:04 pm

The City of Austin is bringing together residents, property owners, urban designers, businesses, neighborhood leaders and more to discuss: What do you want our “South Shore Central” waterfront to look like in 20 years? The City is welcoming a team of national experts—in riverfront planning, landscape architecture, green infrastructure, and more—to town June 4-6 and the public is invited to participate through a variety of opportunities. Wednesday: Unveiling of Recommendations from Visiting National Panel June 6 from 5:30-8 p.m. Location: Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center , 600 River Street , Austin Download the events flyer: www.tinyurl.com/SDAT-flyer. The scenic waterfront along Lady Bird Lake’s South Shore Central area (along Congress Avenue and First Street)—known for Austin’s iconic bat viewing—will connect to the future Boardwalk Trail at Lady Bird Lake and future planned urban rail. Austin is one of seven communities across the nation to receive technical and planning assistance this year from the American Institute of Architect’s Sustainable Design Assessment Team program (SDAT). The team visiting Austin this week will share recommendations based on best practices on creating sustainable communities through design. This visit is the beginning of a conversation with the community about the waterfront’s future. Find biographies of the visiting experts and learn more about the project at www.AustinTexas.gov/waterfront.
