Indian handheld fans, known as “Haath pankha”, have been used since ancient times. From highly embellished kinds with luxurious embroideries and fabrics used for royals to basic ones for the commoners, they were a part of daily life. Each region of the subcontinent had its own unique style too! Join us in making your very own Haath pankha, which you can carry on a warm sunny day to a picnic in the park – it’s bound to make you look and feel cool!!
This workshop is best enjoyed by those 12 years old and up. Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a
ticketed adult. This is an indoor workshop,
masks are optional.
About the Instructor:
Preeti Agrawal is a craft blogger and watercolorist. In her work, she’s concerned with experiments that combine old and new. She is drawn to the modern craft sensibility but at the same time the traditional arts call to her. She loves the interplay of the two as she adjusts traditional arts to new mediums and materials.
A concern for the environment and a reverence for nature pervades her daily life and work: she saves fabric, remnants, beads and the castaways of modern living and incorporates them into her work. Making things by hand gives her joy, up cycling, salvaging and repurposing materials gives her joy, as a result her crafting world is the perfect marriage of two!
