Our monthly Austin Sierra Club meeting will be online via Zoom.

We’ll start off with Announcements on current events… Tonight’s main topic is Electric vehicles, with a focus on battery reuse & recycling.

Electric vehicle sales are growing dramatically! Significant effort is being expended by governments, private companies, universities and research institutes to develop better battery technologies and find ways to reuse and recycle EV batteries.

Our featured speaker is Maria Kelleher, an Irish-Canadian environmental engineer who specializes in waste management and energy research projects. Maria has a Civil Engineering degree from University College, Cork, Ireland; a Masters Degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Toronto in 1982; and a Diploma in Environmental Health from McMaster University in 2000. http://kelleherenvironmental.com/

Maria is currently on the Board of Directors of the Toronto Region Conservation Authority, and previously served on the Board of Directors of Pollution Probe, Ina Grafton Gage Senior’s Home, the Toronto Atmospheric Fund, and as the external reviewer for the Ontario Power Authority Conservation and Technology Funds.

If you have not used Zoom before to join online meetings, it’s recommended to get a free account at http://zoom.us/ . It’s a good idea to test your phone or PC prior to the event. Turning on your microphone and camera (to be heard and seen during the meeting) is typically not needed. The URL to click on and join the meeting will be displayed after you RSVP.
