6:30-7:15 or 7:30 – Zach Baumer, City of Austin, Manager, Climate Change Program: The City of Austin has been working with community stakeholders for the last 10 months to revise the Austin Community Climate Plan. The original climate goals were set by the City in 2007, and the first community climate plan was adopted by the City Council in 2015. This plan revision focuses on setting more aggressive goals and strategies, and new specific focuses on racial equity, natural systems, electric vehicles, refrigerants, and the life cycle impact of food, goods, and building materials. The draft plan will be released for public comment in August, and this presentation will cover the process so far to create the plan, and an initial look at the proposed goals and strategies.

Bio: Zach Baumer has been with the City of Austin since 2011 where he manages the Climate Program in the City of Austin’s Office of Sustainability. His primary duties include overseeing the implementation of climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies across the City organization and community. Prior to the City of Austin, Zach spent 10 years working in the environmental consulting industry, primarily assisting large industrial clients with environmental data management, greenhouse gas inventories, and sustainability planning. Zach holds an MBA in Sustainable Management from the Presidio Graduate School and undergraduate degrees in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering from Purdue University.

7:15-8:00 Climate Change Committee Meeting – Discuss Action Teams and allow people to sign up to continue the work to stop climate change, an imperative if we want our current civilization to survive. We’ve formed Action Teams on Austin Energy, the Permian Pipeline, Rio Grande Valley Support, Carbon Fee & Dividend, People Power, Data Entry, and Presentations and more. We have identified additional action teams we’d like to form, including Transportation, Climate Justice, Partner Organizations, School Education, and Social Media. Whether you have only minutes a month or hours a day, join us to build a mass movement to stop climate change. Or join another group fighting this vital cause.
