01 Apr Great Results from Austin EcoNetwork’s Community Building Event
Over 65 EcoCommunity leaders packed into the Austin History Center to attend Wednesday's event "Building Our Network: Uniting for Sustainability" and nearly everyone who returned a survey said the meeting was worthwhile, informative and inspiring.
We are in the process of gleaning all of the ideas shared at the meeting and on the feedback forms but we want to share some highlights with you now. The topics for further development that generated the most excitement were:
- Build the subscriber base so that EcoNewletters reach 10s of 1000s of readers
- Host monthly roundtable/think tank discussions to learn about, engage with and problem solve around a particular issue/initiative a la DC Environmental Network
- Create a display that represents the network and our many partners to co-share event booth space, particularly for the more expensive trade shows.
- Develop an action network that can mobilize people to affect specific local issues (esp. government decisions).
- Make the EcoDirectory, Austin Green Map and Sustainability Scene Map as complete as possible
- Provide ways for AEN members to display their affiliation (bumper stickers, buttons, etc)
- Support entrepreneurial efforts to launch green businesses and develop industries that support our ability to live sustainably as a region
- Connect the green entrepreneurial and social scene to youth in Austin, esp. high school.
- Establish a board of directors for Austin EcoNetwork to guide its growth and project development
- Get major employers and other not-specifically-green groups to encourage their employees and affiliates to subscribe.
- Syndicate some of our content to other venues such as neighborhood newsletters, company newsletters etc. to "go where the people are"
Stay tuned for more details and opportunities to be involved in making all this happen!
