Republic Square Park is getting a facelift. The Austin Parks Foundation, Downtown Austin Alliance, and the city’s Parks and Recreation Department have teamed up to oversee a $5.8 million renovation project of the historic downtown park.
Republic Square Park has a long and storied history in Austin. Back in 1839, it actually served as the location where the first 306 lots of the city were sold at auction. The newly renovated park will boast a more modern design and include new amenities, including a permanent food kiosk, café-style seating, and public restrooms. The project is expected to be complete by next summer. The Sustainable Food Center’s Saturday Farmer’s Market will continue to operate on West 4th Street and the adjacent Federal Courthouse Plaza during construction. More info>>
