Since February of 2003, the Austin EcoNetwork has been a listserv which has kept people in the loop about what’s going on with Austin and the environment.

The list grew out of a meeting of nearly 40 of Austin’s top eco leaders (see Contributors) that Brandi Clark, Selwyn Polit and others convened in February 2003 at Casa de Luz. During that gathering we came up with three goals for the environmental community of Austin:
1) better digital communication
2) more social interaction
3) a physical center – a green demonstration building co-locating green businesses, many nonprofit offices, healthy food and community activities.

We’re doing great on one and two—three is still percolating. Multiple projects are bubbling up, and we want to see them all succeed.

It has been Brandi’s pleasure to steward this community resource for the last six years. Together we are building community. It works because you all contribute to it and read the posts.

Back in 2003, we started with just over 100 people on the list; and today there are over 2600 list members who get my multiple daily posts to keep up to date with Austin and the environment.
