17 May Award Winning Displays at 2010 Austin Green Living Expo
Announcing Award Winning Displays from the 2010 Austin Green Living Expo
Kudos to all the wonderful exhibits we had at last month’s Austin Green Living Expo. The event was so comprehensive and we were very pleased with all that the show had to offer. The event was educational, enlightening as well as fun! AND TASTY!! So much good food! Again thanks to all the vendors that came together to create such a wonderful event. We look forward to the 2011 event which will continue to grow and expand. (More on that in a minute)
CONGRATULATIONS TO THIS YEAR’S AWARD WINNING DISPLAYS:
Best Home Improvement: Sloan Valve ~ Aqus Graywater Reclamation System
for showing new ways to reduce water consumption with their undersink water reclamation system that diverts graywater from the sink to the toilet.
Most Forward Thinking: Chino’s Concrete
for their display of Pervious Concrete showing how water passes through their surfaces and doesn’t count toward your property’s impervious coverage.
Most Educational: City of Austin Water
for their water table display that demonstrated to children (and adults) how everything from trash, oil and "pet litter" topographically flows into our streams, lakes and rivers.
Environmental Leader: Solid Waste Services
for their new Composter Rebate and the Green 30 Challenge helping citizens to reduce their waste and properly dispose of hazardous waste. (PS: Loved the little cylinder that specified what the different plastics 1-7 were able to be recycled into!)
Best Landscape: GreenScapes Landscaping
for their unique landscape display which included a faux riverbed filled with blue glass "water"
Best of Show: Goodness Grows in Austin (pictured)
for their elaborate display representing a rainwater garden with flowing waterfalls, landscaping incorporating edible plants, gorgeous native flora & trees. (Heather is so very talented and the Ong Jars from Big Brass Bamboo were fabulous too!)
I’d also like to thank SPROUTS Farmers Market for the wonderful Green Reusable Totebags that we gave away at the front entrance. Please support efforts to create a cleaner planet by using reusable bags and doing away with plastic bags.
Also MAY IS AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH — if you haven’t visited Sprouts this month, please go by, shop and help SUPPORT SPROUTS’ FUNDRAISING EFFORTS FOR AUTISM SPEAKS by adding a $1, $5 or $10 tax deductible donation thru June 2nd. I along with all the children and families that Autism touches sincerely thank you for your help in raising funds to research, educate and advocate for those affected by Autism.
Some changes and great additions will be coming to next year’s event … so stay tuned for more info.
We plan continue to offer a comprehensive exhibit hall allowing consumers to make the choices that best suit all aspects of their lifestyle — regardless of their shade of green, we look to again host a Film Festival, continue our Fabulous Cooking Stage featuring local chefs & restaurants, and fantastic educational seminars.
