“Drum, Dance, Groove to the Rhythms of Austin at Austin Earth Day Festival 2015
Austin Earth Day Festival 2015 returns to the Historic Browning Hangar at Mueller on Saturday, April 18th with a line-up that will ignite the imagination of thousands of Austinites.
Ten drumming acts, both participatory and performance, will take the stage throughout the day. Celebrating Austin's diversified community, the performances will include professional drumming and dancing that highlights African, Brazilian, Middle Eastern, Chinese, Caribbean, and Polynesian cultures and more!
Our Earth Day speakers will appear in the format of a “funky, retro 70’s style” talk show that will also to be broadcast live on Channel Austin and KOOP Community Radio, 91.7FM. The line-up for this portion of the festival features a cast of all-star environmental champions, including:
Mayor Steve Adler, City of Austin
Brandi Clark Burton, Founder of Austin EcoNetwork
Pliny Fisk, Center for Maximum Potential Building Systems
Mark Strama, Former TX State Rep. & Head of Google Fiber Operations in Austin
Brigid Shea, County Commissioner, Travis County
Sarah Eckhart, County Judge, Travis County
Chris Riley, on Transportation, Cycling and Urban Farming in Austin
Tom “Smitty” Smith, Texas Director at Public Citizen
This family-friendly event features an enormous "Kid’s Zone" with fun attractions including crafts and activities for all ages, music, magic, balloon sculpture, a “Box City” construction zone, petting zoo, kid’s parade and more!
With local food trailers, a comprehensive selection of hands-on demonstrations, and a wide variety of nonprofit and green-business exhibitors, everyone can find a way to connect with our planet at Austin Earth Day Festival 2015!
“As Austin’s ‘sustainable mixed-use urban village’, Mueller is conceptually the perfect location for Austin Earth Day Festival”, says Festival Producer Reed Sternberg. “But the gorgeous festival grounds are really what makes it the place to be on April 18th.”
Working with Community Partners, Austin Earth Day Festival 2015 will also be a “zero waste” event! Balcones Resources and Compost Pedallers will help divert at least 90% of discards from our landfills, Ecology Action will take back and recycle old electronics, and Green Frontiers Water will provide free filtered water, so don't forget to B. Y. O. B. (Reusable Bottle, that is!).
This year’s festival is sponsored by: HEB, Austin Energy’s Green Choice, Balcones Resources, Mueller, Save Barton Creek Association, Cielo Windpower, Capital Metro, Green Gorilla Movers, City of Austin Office of Sustainability, Austin Resource Recovery and Longhorn Solar, plus media sponsors, Austin Chronicle, KUT, KOOP, Do512, and TWC News and various other Community Partners.
