Building Green Justice Forum

November 23 @ 5:02 am

Huston-Tillotson University, Green is the New Black, The Dumpster Project, and Ecology Action have partnered to host a one day forum for students, organizers, and community members to discuss what Environmental Justice organizing looks like – on campus, in the community, in the city. We are building networks to meet mutual goals and inspire action. Individuals and organizations will learn how to incorporate environmental justice work into their missions and daily lives.

Events:
– Panel discussion among local environmental and educational organizations examining how they integrate EJ organizing into their work.
– Presentation by Dr. Eric Tang of the UT Institute for Urban Policy Research & Analysis, Division of Diversity and Community Engagement on how students and the academic community can assist communities in organizing towards effective policy changes.
– Workshop on community environmental information available through the Toxics Release Inventory, supported by the EPA.
– Workshop on consensus-building in diverse communities.
– Discussion groups and break-out sessions for new partnerships.
– Breakfast and lunch provided!

Join us for a day of listening to each other’s stories and sharing experiences! This is the first step in mobilizing Austin’s network of environmental justice organizers and actors.
