“Shades of Green” Environmental Talk Radio on KOOP 91.7 FM (Lumbering Giants)

This week, Ken Chambers will join us to talk about a new non-profit, Lumbering Giants, building a new bench called “PERFECTO!”, with the goal of making beautiful furniture out of reclaimed lumber.  (Austin puts about 12,000 tons of lumber that Austin landfills every year.)

Lumbering Giants recently launched a project on kickstarter.com to raise the funds it needs to start building furniture and recycling lumber on a large scale. The organizations needs equipment and warehouse space to get started.  A 501c3 non-profit, it plans to build an inventory by offering federal tax deductions for lumber donations. All net profits will go to help homeless and low-income Austinites with low-cost or no-cost building materials.
