29 Jul Help Create Austin’s First Urban Forest Plan!
Our Urban Forestry Board is collecting feedback from residents of Austin regarding our Urban Forest. What are your concerns and priorities going forward? The Board, Angela Hanson, City of Austin's Urban Forester, and staff from different departments are creating "Austin's first comprehensive urban forest plan for all trees and vegetation in public spaces." The plan is slated to be presented to City Council fall of this year, 2013.
From the Urban Forestry release:
"Impacts from continuing growth and development, combined with long term drought conditions create an imperative to develop Austin's Urban Forest Plan as part of Imagine Austin’s Green Infrastructure Priority Program. “This plan is something that Austin has needed for a long time,” said Patrick Brewer, a member of the Urban Forestry Board. “We look forward to hearing from the public and developing this new plan." ”
In the next few days there will be public meetings, events, and a few online activities that you are encouraged to participate in. There will be a community workshop and open house on Tuesday, Aug. 13 from 3-7 pm. Join the online forum or fill out one of the surveys.
