A SAMPLING OF SARAH'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Preserving our natural heritage for future generations
Sarah Eckhardt helped expand Travis County's government-protected green spaces by supporting purchase of wilderness for the Balcones Canyonland Preserve, the Onion Creek Trail, and the Gilleland Creek Trail. She also protected the Balcones Canyonland Preserve from harmful development and brokered a multiparty agreement with a gravel mining company to preserve green space along the Colorado River and Gilleland Creek.Punishing polluters
Sarah Eckhardt punished polluters and helped restore Hamilton Pool, one of Central Texas’ treasures, by assisting with mediation of a $3.5 million settlement against developers who had illegally polluted the pool with construction runoff.
Preventing Central Texas from sending their garbage to Travis County
Sarah Eckhardt kept Travis County from becoming the dumping ground for Central Texas by successfully combating expansion of landfills in Eastern Travis County.
Protecting and conserving our water supply
Sarah Eckhardt helped preserve the quality and quantity of groundwater for our children and grandchildren by working to pass more stringent groundwater regulations for subdivision permits.
Leading on Conservation
Sarah Eckhardt has been a driving force in the development of the first ever Travis County Land, Water and Transportation Plan that recognizes the importance of protecting our natural resources. She was also instrumental in implementing the county's Conservation Easement Acquisition policy.
