Local Food – Part I – the Producers – Habitat Suites Hotel

September 30 @ 11:36 am

Local Food – Talk # 1 – Local Food Production

Habitat Suites Hotel – Free & Open to the Public

...presented by Austin Permaculture Guild…

Local Food makes up less than 15% of our total – and the average morsel travels 1,500 miles to get to your table. This is a situation that is un-sustainable – it's dripping with oil from transport, processing, machine farming; loaded with known/unknown toxins; poisoning the soil with pesticides; hurting our precious farmland; and, putting the profits in the pockets of big, largely uncaring, certainly non-local corporations.

The Local Food Movement in Austin/C-TX is asking all to join – all to promote, buy, cook, eat more Local Food. It's healthier, more nutritious, tastes better, involves exercise/wellness – some things I hope we all want to do. It's also easy – garden or start to garden, go to and buy from Local farmers or at local Farmers Markets. And, it's important to know about and support Local growers – financially, politically, strategically – with publicity, or just buy and eat their good food and promote Local businesses and the Local economy.

Part one – Local Food – the Producers – will feature 4 Local Food producers – a small farm, a bigger farm, a poultry/egg producer, a gardener turned farmer, teacher, entrepreneur – it's this Wed. night from 7:00 pm – 8:30 at Habitat Suites Hotel.

Please join us;…It's important;….it's important to know and support our Local Food producers. Please pass this invite on and bring a friend…Learn about Local Food, what it can do for you, and what you can do for Local Food. Thanks

PS: Part 2 – Local Food – The Purveyors will "air" Wed. night, March 13th at Habitat Suites – it will feature: a restaurant, a retail market, the farmers' markets, hopefully a distributor, and an instiutional food service. We need to support and recognize these pioneers who are featuring and buying/serving Local produce, meat, poultry.
