[Gardening Class]Saturday, October 17th from 10am to noon Sunfield Community Garden is hosting a free class on organic pest management and fertilizers. Students will learn how to make home-brewed organic fertilizers and pest-repellants that are cheap and safe alternatives to chemical interventions. More info>>
[Gardening Class]Saturday, October 17th at noon Brite Ideas is hosting a free class on organic pest control in the home and garden at its store on South Congress Avenue. Students will learn how to repel, displace and defeat pests in a way that poses minimal risk to people and pets. More info>>
[Farm Tour] Saturday, October 17th at 3:30pm the Compost Coalition is hosting a tour of Logro Farms to see how they are taking in “waste” like sawdust, beer grains and coffee grounds to make delicious mushrooms. The tour will be followed by a free brewery tour at Jester King. Plus, Logro Farms will be giving away free mushroom compost! Just bring an empty bucket. More info>>
[Fundraiser] Saturday, October 17th from 5pm to 7pm the Pines & Prairies Land Trust is hosting its inaugural Bands for Lands fundraiser at Neighbor’s Kitchen & Yard in Bastrop. There will be live music and a silent auction. Plus, all of the money raised will go directly toward protecting open spaces in Central Texas. More info>>

Urban Roots will be sharing information about its mission to use food and farming to transform the lives of young people and inspire, engage, and nourish the community. [Cooking Class] Tuesday, October 20th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm the Sustainable Food Center is hosting a cooking class entitled,“Happy Baby: Meeting Protein Needs During Pregnancy” at its headquarters on East 17th Street. Students will learn how to use locally grown produce and pasture-raised meats to make protein-packed snacks and meals. Space is limited, so tickets should be purchased in advance. More info>>
[Book Club] Thursday, October 22nd from 7pm to 8pm the Austin Public Library is hosting a meeting of its Talk Green to Me Book Club at Recycled Reads on Burnet Road. The topic of discussion will be Elizabeth Cline’s book, “Overdressed: The Shockingly High Cost of Cheap Fashion,” an expose of the environmental consequences of the fashion industry.
