[Film Screening] Friday, March 4th from 7pm to 9pm the First Unitarian Universalist Church is hosting a free film screening. The screening will be of a talk given by Bernie Sanders, Naomi Klein, Chris Hedges and other environmental leaders at the Unitarian Universalist Church in New York the night before the Global Climate March last year. [Volunteer] Saturday, March 5th from 9am to 5pm the Austin Parks Foundation is hosting It’s My Park Day at dozens of sites around the city. It’s My Park Day is the foundation’s largest city-wide volunteer event of the year, bringing out thousands of volunteers to improve parks, trails and greenbelts throughout the city. Event activities include live bird comparisons, bird walks, and more avian activities for all ages. [Reuse Clinic] Saturday, March 5th from noon to3pm Austin Resource Recovery is hosting a FixIt Clinic for small electronics and appliances at Recycled Reads. Fixit Clinics are all about do-it-together hands-on disassembly, troubleshooting and repair knowledge. Just bring your broken electronics to the clinic, and volunteer coaches will help you to fix it. The entire event is free and open to the public. More info>>

[Gardening Class] Saturday, March 5th at noon Brite Ideas is hosting a free “Basics of Aquaponics” class at its store on South Congress Avenue. Students will learn how to grow plants simultaneously with fish, all the while creating a simple, robust, and thriving system. More info>>

[Farm Tour] Sunday, March 6th from 1pm to 3pm the Austin and Central Texas Backyard Poultry Meetup group is hosting a tour of the Coyote Creek Organic Feed Mill. Coyote Creek is the only organic feed mill in Texas and is dedicated to sustainable, organic, and local farming and ranching practices, coupled with the humane treatment of all animals. The tour will include the mill and egg operations, along with the farm and free range layer houses. More info>>

[Happy Hour] Monday, March 7th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm the Young Sierrans are having their monthly meeting at the Waller Creek Pub House. Young Sierrans is the group of Sierra Club folks between the ages of 21 and 39. The topic of discussion will be “Not Enough Skeletons in the Closet: Voucher-Based Collections in an Age of Conservation Science.” Dr. Christopher J. [Speaker Series] Wednesday, March 9th from 8:45am to 10am theImagine Austin Speaker Series continues with a talk on pedestrian infrastructure at City Hall. Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett will be giving a talk entitled, “The City That Lost A Million Pounds,” about a series of changes he implemented to get his community moving. [Social] Wednesday, March 9th from 4pm to 7:30pm the Children in Nation Collaborative of Austin is hosting a “Children, Cities, and Nature” social at the George Washington Carver Museum. CINCA’s latest partnership with the National League of Cities will be discussed, along with opportunities to get more involved with the city’s efforts to create an action plan to increase nature access for all children in the community.
